The Cat Empire
True party animals, the boys of the Australian band The Cat Empire. With its explosive mix of latin, ska, funk, jazz and rock, the band transfers each room in a smoking trail. The catchy music blew early this century to Europe and the U.S. and The Cat Empire is unstoppable. Central theme in their music is the rejection of the material, war and intolerance alongside an enthusiastic embrace of cultural diversity and the simple carefree existence. The latest album 'Cinema' was released in August.
Words do not describe this band live ... you have to experience it yourself!! Of some bands you do not understand that they are famous world over.

Hurts
The expectations about the British band Hurts are high. The electro pop duo consisting of Theo Hutch Craft and Adam Anderson from Manchester, was fourth in the list of 'BBC Sound of 2010' and by the British quality newspaper The Guardian described as follows: "[Hurts] look as though they've leg styled by Helmut Newton, directed by Anton Corbijn Produced by Trevor Horn and Martin Hannett on a tip. "Hurts seems particularly reminiscent of the heyday of the eighties, when electropop bands like Blancmange, Ultravox, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode service included. The first official single "Better Than Love" is just released as well as their untitled debut album.
The show - their first outside England for their Europan tour - starts this Sunday night at the Paradiso crowded with Unspoken, one of the strongest songs from their impressive debut album. It is immediately obvious that vocalist Theo Hutch Craft has a very powerful and impressive voice, making the songs seem even more live than on record.
But the show tonight is not only the great voice of Craft Hutch, where you almost wonder if everything is going live. Songs like Wonderful Life and Blood, Tears and Gold pass. Although the singles and album is not doing very well in the charts in the Netherlands in relation to the rest of Europe, it appears that the men are quite popular.
Unfortunately, with a murderous pace the album is performed. Time for a chat or some interaction with the audience tonight seems not possible - lack of experience? After the songs Stay and Illuminated and their second hit, "Better Than Love" are played, the band leaves the stage, ... to never, ever return.
Of course, they have only one album. But does this mean you have to run through all your songs/material within an hour? The gig tonight is certainly in order, both vocal and instrumental, and visually. But despite the fact that it was a convincing performance, I am still left with the feeling that there could have been more tonight.
