Jimi Hendrix meets Frank Zappa

On Wednesday, March 18, 2009, the guitar prog of the finest kind was present in the Melkweg, Amsterdam. Jimi Hendrix meets Frank Zappa, in other words, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group. A good band, directed by Omar with those small hand gestures and incredible drum parties. The played songs spanned his entire oeuvre, I heard three songs from his first two albums (including a fabulous Jacob Van Lennep Kade), some numbers of Old Money, but also (and sang by Ximena Sariñana) total unknown work. This alternation of singing ensured that the focus for more than a half hour at no time impaired. Omar remains a brilliant guitarist. Afterwards I chose a CD of the program Zech Marquise, which is quite surprising ... actually good? Despite the fact the sound of the concert is not really present on the CD.
